Philanthropy
AZ Beta is proud to continue the tradition of Pi Beta Phi's philanthropy to improve literacy across America. Pi Beta Phi is partnered with First Book, an international nonprofit organization founded in 1992 with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. Together, through innovative programs such as First Book Speed Read and the Alumnae Outreach Program, First Book and Pi Beta Phi are committed to bringing new books to children from low-income families in communities across the United States and Canada. In fact, within the first year of the partnership, Pi Phi and First Book donated 350,000 brand-new books.
Our main fundraiser is in the fall and is called Arrowspike. It is comprised of a huge volleyball tournament that fraternities and other ASU students/clubs participate in. Last year we raised $4500 from this philanthropy alone! Arrowspike is
beneficial in many ways because it creates awareness in the community of our philanthropy and literacy efforts as well as raise money for our philanthropies and Foundation. The money we raise from Arrowspike benefits First Book as well as our Foundation.

Additionally, every year, AZ Beta participates in our "Champions Are Readers" Program. Champions Are Readers is a month-long reading enrichment program, hosted by Pi Beta Phi, for third graders. This program is designed to supplement reading activities that schools already provide. This year, each member went to Creighton Elementary School throughout the month of February and read with the children.

Fraternity Day of Service is an annual Pi Phi event, where collegians and alumnae commit one day to serving the community. This year, we spent our Saturday afternoon wrapping and assembling boxes full of donated books for "Books for Keeps" book-drive. We donated more than 800 books at the end of the day!
Our Foundation was recently founded in 1990 and it’s purpose is to empower the Fraternity with the funding needed to pursue its mission and purpose. Targeting education, leadership and philanthropy, the Foundation enriches lives and supports both Pi Phi’s and the community at large. The Foundation funds a broad range of philanthropic efforts benefiting both the Fraternity and the community, including scholarships, emergency relief grants, leadership development programs and literacy initiatives.
