Fall 2013 Colonizing News Story

Pi Beta Phi Colonizes at the University of Tampa and George Mason University

Published On: 2013-10-08

On September 29, 2013, Pi Beta Phi welcomed more than 90 New Members to its charter colony at the University of Tampa during colonizing recruitment. Just one week later, more than 115 New Members were welcomed into the Fraternity's other new charter colony at George Mason University.

In keeping with Pi Beta Phi’s focus on literacy education, both weekends kicked off a literacy-themed open house. The Florida Epsilon Chapter from the University of Central Florida assisted with Preference Parties at the University of Tampa, and members of the D.C. Alpha Chapter from The George Washington University assisted with the Preference Parties at George Mason University Saturday afternoon. The New Member classes were pledged on Sunday morning and Bid Day celebration luncheons were held immediately following.

Throughout the next eight weeks New Members at Florida Zeta and Virginia Iota will participate in Pi Beta Phi’s New Member Education Program, which is administered through the Fraternity’s award winning values-based programming, Leading with Values®. The New Member Education Program serves as an orientation to the organization for New Members and prepares them to become valuable members of Pi Beta Phi.

The Virginia Iota Chapter at George Mason University will be installed January 25, 2014, and the Florida Zeta Chapter at the University of Tampa will be installed on February 1, 2014. Installation weekend registration will be available on the Upcoming Events page in mid-November.
