South Carolina Alpha is Back!

Published On: 2014-09-24

Pi Beta Phi welcomed 240 New Members to its newest colony, South Carolina Alpha at the University of South Carolina, September 19-21, 2014. In keeping with Pi Beta Phi’s focus on literacy education, the weekend kicked off a literacy themed open house. Members from the Georgia Alpha Chapter from the University of Georgia assisted a team of Fraternity officers, AAC members and staff with Preference Parties Saturday. The New Member class was pledged on Sunday morning and a Bid Day celebration lunch was held immediately following. Sunday activities included attendance by many supportive alumnae.

Throughout the next eight weeks, New Members will participate in Pi Beta Phi’s New Member Education Program, which is administered through the Fraternity’s award winning values-based programming, Leading with Values®. The New Member Education Program serves as an orientation to the organization for New Members and prepares them to become valuable members of Pi Beta Phi. The New Members will be supported by three Resident Leadership Development Consultants on campus throughout the year.

Pi Beta Phi’s South Carolina Alpha Chapter at the University of South Carolina was originally installed in 1931. After 54 years on campus, the chapter voted to relinquish its charter in 1985 because of low membership. The chapter had struggled to maintain competitive on campus in the 1980s and realized they were no longer providing a viable Pi Phi experience. It was a very difficult decision for the women to make, but there was always hope one day Pi Phi would be able to return to the University of South Carolina. And now that time has come! The South Carolina Alpha Chapter at the University of South Carolina will be re-installed on November 22, 2014. Installation Weekend registration is now available on the Upcoming Events page. Be sure to like the South Carolina Alpha Chapter’s Facebook page, too.
