Our Vision

Read > Lead> Achieve is Pi Beta Phi's philanthropic effort, which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential and create a more literate and productive society.

At Pi Beta Phi, we believe in the power of reading. We believe reading always has been - and always will be - a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. We believe that when one out of four children cannot read, that is one too many. We believe in inspiring readers, sparking imaginations, and igniting the desire to learn. We believe that readers become leaders. And we believe reading is the foundation of all that we can achieve in life.

Philanthropy Events

Champions are Readers (C.A.R.)
Throughout the year, Pi Beta Phi at UCLA volunteers at local schools where we are able to read and tutor students to promote literacy in the home as well as in school. We have partnered up with John Muir Elementary School in Santa Monica to work with children who are 6 months to 2 years behind in reading level, and we visit their classroom several times a week to keep our students on the track to becoming incredible readers
arrowspike2016  Arrowspike
Our annual philanthropy, Arrowspike, is a volleyball tournament where fraternities and sororities make a donation to the Pi Beta Phi Foundation and compete to raise money for literacy!
Lemonade for Literacy
We introduced this event in Winter 2016 and sold lemonade to students on Bruinwalk to raise money and awareness for literacy. Chick-fil-a generously donated gallons of lemonade and hundreds of cups, to which we attached facts about worldwide literacy.
dm2015 Dance Marathon
Every year Pi Phi forms a team to support and participate in UCLA's Dance Marathon, where we take a literal stand against pediatric HIV/AIDS for 26 hours! Last year the event raise $446,253.60 to benefit HIV-affected children all around the world.
TAKE Defense
For the past eight years, we have hosted TAKE Defense for the entire UCLA Panhellenic community, with over 1,000 attendees last year. TAKE Defense is an organization dedicated to educating young women about safety through hands-on, self-defense training.
