2020 Collegiate Excellence Award Winners

Pi Beta Phi recognizes chapters, clubs and individual members for their excellence in various aspects of Pi Phi life. Every year, we celebrate and honor Pi Phi chapters for contributing to their communities and the Fraternity. Congratulations to our 2020 Collegiate Excellence Award Winners!

Collegiate Excellence in Alumnae Advisory Committee (AAC)

New York Epsilon

At the beginning of the year, New York Epsilon’s AAC worked to build Sincere Friendship between Advisors and chapter leaders through speed dating questions and by sharing their Pi Phi stories. Their friendships continued to grow throughout the year by taking time to share personal wins and stories outside of chapter business. The chapter’s AAC also sent newsletters following each monthly meeting to highlight the month's achievements, discussed goals and important deadlines.

Collegiate Excellence in Community Relations

Michigan Gamma

In 2020, the Michigan Gamma Chapter built a Little Free Library in the park next to the chapter house which helped the chapter to build positive relationships with their neighbors, the East Lansing Public Library and the East Lansing Parks & Recreation department. The chapter also maintained their relationship with Cavanaugh Elementary School through videos of bilingual members reading children’s books and a pen pal program with Cavanaugh’s second graders.

Collegiate Excellence in Finance/Housing

Virginia Theta

Given the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Virginia Theta Chapter worked alongside the finance/housing team to grant dues reductions without draining reserves. The chapter budget was adjusted based on in-person event limitations allowing member dues to be reduced by almost 25%. The chapter also hosted several events for live-in members to create an atmosphere of fun and friendship including a roommate mixer, a paint war de-stressor and pumpkin painting.

Collegiate Excellence in Member Experience

Pennsylvania Eta

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pennsylvania Eta Chapter hosted creative sisterhood events such as a seasonal sadness workshop, a love languages workshop and bachelor watch parties. Throughout the year, the chapter remained committed to demonstrating the positive impact of fraternity/sorority life through virtual movie and book clubs to discuss the experiences of the BIPOC community and affinity groups within the chapter to help sisters with specific backgrounds or identities connect.

Collegiate Excellence in Operations

Florida Beta

With the implementation of the new officer structure, the Florida Beta Chapter clearly defined the responsibilities of each position on the Chapter Leadership Team. In preparation for chapter elections, the Operations team hosted virtual roundtables for chapter members interested in applying for leadership positions to ask questions and learn more from Chapter Leadership Team members. The chapter also successfully implemented the Remote Student Status for members who did not return to campus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Collegiate Excellence in Recruitment

Arizona Alpha

The Arizona Alpha Chapter developed a social media content calendar for fall recruitment that was both informational and interactive. During their first-ever virtual recruitment, the chapter welcomed Potential New Members and extended support to other Panhellenic chapters needing technology assistance. Due to their extensive recruitment efforts, the chapter reached Panhellenic total during both the spring and fall semesters.

Collegiate Excellence in Risk Management

Virginia Gamma

In 2020, the Virginia Gamma Chapter created a detailed event monitor process. Event monitors were trained and instructed by the Risk Management team and were responsible for checking in members and their dates, getting them safely to the venue and helping to oversee the event. The chapter also sent weekly reminders on COVID-19 protocols and utilized their Director Policy and Prevention Education to address how to stay safe while still maintaining a healthy campus experience.
