2020 Premier Club Finalists

Pi Beta Phi recognizes chapters, clubs and individual members for their excellence in various aspects of Pi Phi life. Every year, we celebrate and honor Pi Phi alumnae clubs for contributing to their communities and the Fraternity. Congratulations to our 2020 Premier Club Finalists!

Small Club Finalists

Winner: Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Alumnae Club
As the end of the spring term, the Bloomfield Club sent handwritten notes to graduating seniors with advice on careers, love and life. The letters welcomed recent graduates to alumnae life and invited them to participate in programming targeted toward young alumnae. The club also designed programming specific for empty nesters, retirees and members wanting to meet new people.

Glen Ellyn-Wheaton, Illinois, Alumnae Club
To kick off the year, the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Club transitioned its Salad Supper into an outdoor Ice Cream Social. With the knowledge that in-person meetings may not be possible moving forward, club leaders presented a Zoom tutorial to help members stay connected and prepare for virtual meetings and events. Despite the virtual format, 16 members volunteered to serve as an officer or committee chair.

Lake Oswego-Dunthorpe, Oregon, Alumnae Club
With the state of Oregon on lockdown, the Lake Oswego-Dunthorpe Club engaged members through a multitude of virtual events such as happy hours, bingo, cookie shines and a socially distanced outdoor art walk. The club continued to prioritize Philanthropic Service to Others by organizing a food drive for two local food banks and adopting a family through the Portland Adopt-a-Family program.

Large Club Finalists

Arlington Heights, Illinois, Alumnae Club
Despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Arlington Heights Club surpassed its expected number of local dues-paying members. While many people were feeling digital burnout, the club had near-average participation in their virtual monthly events due to innovative ideas such as makeup and hair hints for Zoom, yoga, Zumba and a virtual tour of a local pet rescue.

Winner: Bostonian, Massachusetts, Alumnae Club
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bostonian Club created several programs to keep members connected including a pen pal program with the Massachusetts Gamma Chapter and Angels on the Trails – an interest group that scheduled regular outdoor walks. The club also transitioned their most popular events to the virtual space including trivia, book club and the club’s fall kickoff potluck.

Richardson-Plano, Texas, Alumnae Club
The Richardson-Plano Club hosted a series of virtual guest speakers to educate members on the Fraternity and Panhellenic community. Speakers included First Book President and Co-founder Kyle Zimmer, D.C. Alpha, to discuss First Book’s relationship with Pi Phi, Fraternity Historian Fran DeSimone Becque, New York Alpha, to share more context on the history of the National Panhellenic Conference, and a panel of collegians to discuss recruitment processes.
