Welcome From The President

I am so pleased to be writing my first letter as president of CA Delta Pi Beta Phi. This quarter Pi Phi has been very active both on our campus and within our own chapter. We started off the year by assigning every member to a committee. Our house has numerous committees, such as Recruitment, Philanthropy, and Public Relations. Every active member is assigned based on their own interests and personality, and we are all excited to start planning our events for the year.
In early February we held a large self defense workshop in which every Panhellenic sorority on our campus took part. We worked with an organization called ‘TAKE Defense’ that specializes in self defense for young women. In today’s environment we want every one of our sisters to be safe and use the buddy system. However, we understand that this may not always be possible, and after ‘TAKE Defense’ our entire chapter feels much more educated and prepared to defend ourselves (which hopefully will never be necessary).
Another event that we took part in this quarter was the annual event Greek Week, which is designed to bring all of the Greek organizations on campus together. We were assigned to the red team and participated in academic and physical games such as relay races, pie eating contests, flag football, and many other fun activities. We ended up getting third place and more importantly thoroughly enjoyed the annual event.
As many of you may have heard, there has been some controversy over inappropriate party themes and activities on the UCSD campus. The UCLA Greek Community has addressed these issues and is making sure that we have fun and entertaining themes that are not derogatory.
Spring quarter is here, and it is always a very exciting time at CA Delta. We will be holding our Mom’s Day and Founder’s Day events, along with our annual Arrowspike Volleyball Tournament to raise money for Pi Phi’s philanthropy Links to Literacy. As we mentioned in previous newsletters, our house was recently remodeled and we welcome all parents to stop by and see the changes.
Peace, Love, Pi Phi,
Alexandra Preece
