About The Arrow
The Arrow of Pi Beta Phi is the official quarterly publication of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. The purpose of The Arrow is to present matters of value to Pi Beta Phi; furnish a means of communication among collegiate chapters, alumnae groups and officers; and represent the worthiest interest of Fraternity women.
The Arrow was founded at the October 1882 Burlington Convention, when the Fraternity voted to publish, when funds permitted, a Fraternity magazine. However, it was not until the 1884 Iowa City Convention that Kansas Alpha was given the responsibility of publishing the magazine and Mary E. Miller (Barnes) was elected Editor.
The Arrow's first edition, Volume I, Number 1, dated May 1885, was mailed on June 25, 1885. It was 20 pages and the title page read, "The Arrow, official organ of I.C. Sorosis, Pi Beta Phi."
Submissions
All Pi Phis are encouraged to submit news and stories to The Arrow. We love to learn about your literacy projects, including the Champions are Readers® program and First Book Speed Reads™. Share your sisterhood events, fundraising efforts and information about Pi Phi leaders too. We want to know all the wonderful things our members are doing!

ARROW SUBMISSION DEADLINES
• Fall -- August 1
• Winter -- November 1
• Spring -- February 1
• Summer -- May 1
All submissions are subject to editing for content, grammar and space constraints.
When submitting a story, be sure to include a member’s preferred chapter, first, maiden and last names. As a general rule, The Arrow does not print stories about weddings, engagements, pinnings or birth announcements.
We cannot guarantee the publication of any submission — we receive so many! We would love to print everything we receive, but unfortunately, space is limited. If your submission is not published, check to make sure you followed all of the guidelines and do not be discouraged — try again!

Collegiate Submissions -- The Arrow Guide
The Arrow Guide includes requirements, cover story topics and tips for both collegiate and alumnae submissions to the magazine. Please download a PDF of the most recent Arrow Guide.
Where’s my Arrow?
In 2003, Grand Council voted to change The Arrow mailing policy because of rising postage and printing costs. The Fall Arrow is mailed to the entire membership and the other three issues are only mailed to collegians and dues paying alumnae. The Arrow is posted online, and non-dues paying alumnae who have a good e-mail address listed with Headquarters (HQ) receive an e-mail notification.
To receive all four hard copy issues of The Arrow, pay your $25 annual Fraternity alumna dues to your local alumnae organization or directly to HQ by mailing a check to HQ or clicking on the Pay Your Dues button on the home page of www.pibetaphi.org. You will need to pay your dues by December 1 to receive your winter, spring and summer issues.
A NOTE TO PARENTS
Your daughter’s copy of The Arrow is being sent to your address while she is in college. We hope you enjoy reading it too. If your daughter is not in college or no longer living at home, please send us her new address at headquarters@pibetaphi.org.
Letters to the Editor
Send letters to the Editor via mail or e-mail. Please include your full name and chapter of initiation. The Arrow reserves the right to publish any letter received. Letters may be edited for space and clarity.

In Memoriam
Space constraints limit The Arrow to printing an entire obituary for only a former Grand President. In Memoriam lists the name, initiation year and month and year of death for each other member who has died. If you know a sister who has died, please inform HQ. However, only those names accompanied by a published notice will be listed in The Arrow. Published notices include a newspaper obituary (hard copy or online), a funeral program/prayer card or a listing in a university alumni newsletter.
