2021 Individual Alumnae Award Winners
Every year, Pi Beta Phi recognizes and celebrates individual members for contributing to their communities and the Fraternity. With 2022 award nominations underway, we are highlighting the Individual Alumnae Award winners from 2021. Learn more about each of the awards here, then get to know last year’s winners below!
Emma Harper Turner Leadership Award
Margaret Sundberg, Washington Alpha
Margaret’s inspiring leadership style has guided the Seattle, Washington, Alumnae Club to great success from the moment she joined in 1972. Margaret has served in numerous club leadership positions, and during her tenure, the Seattle club earned a Club of Distinction designation and was twice named Ideal Club. With her years of experience and wealth of knowledge, Margaret often serves as a mentor to newer club officers. Her service and compassion not only display a true act of Lifelong Commitment, but also ensures every club member feels welcomed and supported.
Evelyn Peters Kyle Angel Award for Club Service
Joy Vanasse Goodenough, Washington Beta
Awarded posthumously
Although Joy was a quiet leader, her support and generosity never went unnoticed by her sisters. Joy served in many roles at the international and local level, and her charisma shone through in everything she did. From her time as Alumnae Province President to her nearly 50 years of service to the Seattle, Washington, Alumnae Club, Joy modeled a deep understanding of servant leadership—dedicating her time not for recognition but rather the satisfaction of helping others. Joy’s many years of service were done quietly, consistently and lovingly; she will always be remembered as an essential part of both the Seattle club and Pi Phi sisterhood.
Young Alumna Achievement Award
Morgan Riley Sexton, Kentucky Gamma
Since graduating college, Morgan has held 12 volunteer positions for the Fraternity ranging from roles on alumnae club leadership and Alumnae Advisory Committees (AACs) to involvement with local Panhellenic associations. As Vice President Communications for the Phoenix, Arizona, Alumnae Club, Morgan’s communications strategies resulted in a membership increase, higher online engagement and the club winning the Excellence in Communications award. She used the same strategies and skillsets to recruit local and remote advisors to join the Arizona Gamma Chapter’s AAC. Morgan’s leadership was recognized in 2019 by the Phoenix Panhellenic Alumnae association when she was named Emerging Leader of the Year.
