Read > Lead > Achieve

Read > Lead > Achieve® is Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic effort, which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential, creating a more literate and productive society.  We believe in the power of reading. We believe reading always has been — and always will be — a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. We believe that when one out of four children grows up unable to read, that’s one child too many. For more than a century, we’ve committed ourselves to creating a more literate and productive society.

One child … one moment at a time … one life changed forever.

I AM ONE

Every Pi Phi is asked to be ONE who will participate, donate and advocate for Pi Phi's Read > Lead > Achieve reading initiatives.

I am ONE who will participate in Pi Beta Phi’s Read > Lead > Achieve reading initiatives.

Champions are Readers is a unique reading enrichment program for students in pre-kindergarten through third grade.

Our Signature Events, held the weekend of Fraternity Day of Service in major cities across North America, give volunteers the opportunity to distribute 20,000 new, age-appropriate books to children in need.

Our FDS500 program awards grants to 100 First Book® recipient groups, nominated by Pi Phi clubs and chapters, who then use the grants to purchase 500 new books for children in need.

I am ONE who will donate to make an impact in communities across North America.

The Literacy Fund at Pi Beta Phi Foundation plays a critical role in the success of Read > Lead > Achieve.

During the 2017-2019 biennium, grants from our Foundation provided funding for 100% of Pi Phi’s Read > Lead > Achieve programs and events thanks to the generous support of our donors.

I am ONE who will advocate for the importance and value of literacy.

Pi Phi members, chapters and alumnae clubs across North America promote literacy and raise awareness for Read > Lead > Achieve reading initiatives by celebrating Read > Lead > Achieve month in September.

To expand our impact on literacy awareness, Pi Phi developed the Literacy Advocacy Project, which explores all aspects of literacy advocacy — why it’s important, how you can make an impact and what is needed to become an agent of change.
