Sustaining Pi Beta Phi through alumnae dues and donations

Pi Beta Phi’s future is shaped not only by the experiences of today’s collegians but also by the commitment and generosity of our alumnae. During Convention 2025, leaders from across the enterprise shared a unified message: to secure our sisterhood for generations to come, we must engage and activate alumnae in new and meaningful ways. That means renewing our focus on two core behaviors—paying international alumnae dues and making philanthropic gifts to our Foundation.

Why Alumnae Support Matters

Pi Phi's programs, staffing, volunteer support, leadership development, technology tools and communication efforts all rely on consistent, reliable funding. While our collegiate dues help fuel day-to-day operations, alumnae support is the lifeline that allows Pi Phi to maintain affordable dues for collegians; fund chapter visits, volunteer training, and strategic initiatives; invest in new tools such as BetaBase; and, expand leadership programming. In short: the more engaged our alumnae are, the stronger and more adaptable Pi Phi becomes.

A United Strategy

Midway through the biennium, Pi Beta Phi’s three governing entities—Grand Council, the Fraternity Housing Corporation (FHC) Board, and the Foundation Board of Trustees—refined their shared strategic plan to focus on one core priority: engaging the membership to financially sustain Pi Beta Phi.

The Fraternity explored what makes Pi Phi valuable in members’ lives, what messages resonate across generations, and how best to activate alumnae as lifelong supporters. This research is informing how we communicate moving forward—with more targeted messages based on life stage, chapter affiliation and personal engagement history. You’ll also see more video-based storytelling, bite-sized content tailored for mobile use and clearer calls to action around dues and giving.

The Results So Far

Thanks to this work, Pi Phi has reversed a long-term downward trend. From 2007 through the late 2010s, the number of alumnae dues payers declined steadily. For the past four years, that number has grown annually. However, throughout the 2024–2025 fiscal year, 4.6% of Pi Phi’s 243,379 living alumnae paid their international alumnae dues and fewer than 1% donated to the Foundation. While these numbers are encouraging, the opportunity is enormous.

Your Support Matters

Every alumna makes a difference. Whether it’s paying your annual international alumnae dues, making a one-time or recurring gift to the Foundation or contributing to a housing campaign in your chapter—each act of generosity moves Pi Phi forward.

The Foundation is working hard to steward the resources entrusted to it. Meanwhile, the Fraternity is focused on expanding services and programming made possible by alumnae dues. And our message to you is simple: if you love Pi Phi, and you believe in its future, there’s never been a better time to show it.
