  • Read > Lead > Achieve® is Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic effort, which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential creating a more literate and productive society.

At Pi Beta Phi, we believe in the power of reading.

We believe reading always has been — and always will be — a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. We believe that when one out of four children cannot read, that is one too many.

We believe in inspiring readers, sparking imaginations and igniting the desire to learn. We believe that readers become leaders. And, we believe reading is the foundation of all that we can achieve in life.

For more than a century, we’ve committed ourselves to creating a more literate and productive society. We’ve changed with the times, but never shifted our vision. So at Pi Beta Phi, we honor the past while we build for the future…

One child … one moment at a time … one life changed forever

Over the past several years, Pi Phis have donated $1 million to literacy causes and given one million books to children in need. Now, the goal is to impact one million lives through Read > Lead > Achieve by the time Pi Beta Phi celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2017, building on its legacy of literacy. Because Pi Beta Phi values philanthropic service to others so highly, we hope to engage 100,000 volunteers on this journey toward impacting one million lives. The Literacy Fund at Pi Beta Phi Foundation plays a critical role in the success of Read > Lead > Achieve. Gifts to The Literacy Fund support all Pi Phi reading initiatives under Read > Lead > Achieve, including Champions are Readers®, Arrow in the Arctic and Fraternity Day of Service.
