Pi Beta Phi Establishes Chapter at the University of Delaware

NEWARK, Del. — March 23, 2016 – Pi Beta Phi welcomed nearly 240 New Members to its newest chapter, Delaware Alpha at the University of Delaware, March 18-20, 2016. In keeping with Pi Beta Phi’s focus on literacy education, the weekend kicked off a literacy themed open house. Members from the Pennsylvania Epsilon Chapter from Pennsylvania State University assisted a team of Fraternity officers, Alumnae Advisory Committee members and Headquarters staff with Preference Parties Saturday. The New Member class was pledged on Sunday morning and a Bid Day celebration lunch was held immediately following. Many supportive alumnae attended Sunday’s activities.

“We are excited to join the University of Delaware fraternity and sorority community,” said Grand Vice President Membership Rae Wohlhueter Maier. “Many people contributed to the weekend’s success including the chapter’s Alumnae Advisory Committee, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority and the other chapters on campus. We know having a strong network of local alumnae and a solid relationship with the University are key to building a successful collegiate chapter. We are grateful to have so many people supporting our newest chapter.”

Over the next eight weeks, New Members will participate in Pi Beta Phi’s New Member Education Program, which is administered through the Fraternity’s award winning values-based programming, Leading with Values®. The New Member Education Program serves as an orientation to the organization for New Members and prepares them to become valuable members of Pi Beta Phi. Two Resident Leadership Development Consultants will be on campus throughout the year to support the New Members.

The Delaware Alpha Chapter at the University of Delaware will be installed on May 13, 2016. It will be the 140th chapter for Pi Beta Phi and will be the first Pi Beta Phi chapter in the state of Delaware.
