Pi Beta Phi Mourns the Loss of a University of Kansas Member  

ST. LOUIS – June 4, 2015 – It is with great sadness Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women announces the death of collegiate member Haley Drown. Haley died of complications from a sinus infection, which led to bacterial meningitis. She recently completed her freshman year at the University of Kansas and was majoring in business.

Haley Drown 1“My heart is broken for the loss of our beautiful sister Haley,” Chapter President Caroline Leary said. “Haley connected with everyone in our chapter through the joy and grace of her presence. She was wise beyond her years and inspired everyone she met with her bright personality, loyalty and willingness to help others. We will miss Haley immensely, and we will celebrate in the incredible life she lived.”

Chapter members held a vigil over the weekend in Haley’s hometown of Leawood, Kansas. After learning of her passing, chapter member Katie Latinis said, “How deeply I wish Haley's time had not been cut short since she was truly an incredible person and the best friend I have ever had. She positively impacted the lives of so many people as she was a friend to everyone and lit up any room with her bright smile and bubbly personality. I will cherish the 11 years of friendship I was blessed to have had with her and will hold the countless memories we shared close to my heart forever.” 

“We are shocked and saddened to hear of Haley’s sudden passing,” said Paula Shepherd, Pi Beta Phi Grand President. “In times of tragedy, we hope the women of the Kansas Alpha Chapter find comfort in the strong bonds of their Pi Beta Phi sisterhood.”

A Celebration of Haley's life will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Presbyterian Church of Stanley, 14895 Antioch Road, Overland Park, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation, www.takedefense.org.
