Critical Conversations® is Pi Beta Phi's risk prevention education programming supporting the Fraternity's member development program. Components of Critical Conversations focus on educating members on how to cultivate an awareness around health and safety topics and have difficult conversations about accountability. Critical Conversations is a comprehensive approach addressing topics such as alcohol and other substances, mental health, sexual assault, bullying, personal safety and other prevention education topics while integrating Pi Phi values. This program offers a wide variety of tools and resources to address the unique needs of our members and their support systems to engage them in the prevention-education process.
Critical Conversations programs include a Speaker Series, webisodes shared at chapter meetings, Alumnae Advisory Committee Topic Briefs, New Member Education and GreekLifeEdu. Through engagement in Critical Conversations members will be:
- More informed on the threats and consequences associated with risky behaviors.
- Empowered to prevent and confront risky behaviors while reinforcing Pi Phi’s value of sincere friendship.
- Equipped to have caring conversations with peers about risky behaviors and health concerns.
The implementation of Critical Conversations programming is overseen and managed by the chapter’s Vice President of Member Development. The Fraternity’s goal is to ensure each chapter will receive one Speaker Series program during the academic year. Additional resources are intended to replace or enhance current prevention and policy education.
Critical Conversations Speaker Series sets out to provide a number of opportunities for chapters to engage with skilled facilitators in prevention-education programming and Pi Phi values. Throughout the four-year collegiate experience, students will have the opportunity to engage in the full Speaker Series (one speaker series annually).

Critical Conversation facilitator applications are accepted on a rolling basis. We will be recruiting new facilitators in spring 2019, but invite you to apply at any time by clicking here.

Through Critical Conversations, Pi Beta Phi provides resources enabling chapters to engage members in conversations regarding prevention and policy education. These resources include short videos, or webisodes, which are accompanied by a discussion guide to be facilitated by a chapter officer.

Alumnae Advisory Committee Topic Briefs
Pi Beta Phi knows that an important piece of prevention education is equipping our chapter support systems with the information they need to identify concerns and support chapter members. AAC Topic Briefs are short and provide “need-to-know” information on a prevention education topic.
Topic Briefs are available in the Resource Library.
All Pi Beta Phi new members participate in the online GreekLifeEdu™ course. GreekLifeEdu is an online prevention program tailored to the needs of college students who are members of Fraternities/Sororities. This interactive program focuses on alcohol consumption, hazing and sexual assault to help members make safer and healthier decisions.
