4 questions on Pi Beta Phi Leadership Institute

Launched in 2016, Pi Beta Phi Leadership Institute presents hundreds of confident women leaders with the opportunity to understand their leadership capabilities, drive change and turn the impossible into the inevitable. Are you interested in attending but want to learn more? Mississippi Gamma Madalyn Ramey answered four questions about her Leadership Institute experience below.

Q: How did you hear about Leadership Institute?

A: The opportunity to attend Pi Beta Phi Leadership Institute basically fell into my lap. My chapter offered to send one member and without hesitation, I volunteered. At that time, I was completely unaware of the friendships and memories that would follow.

Q: Did you know anyone before registering?

A: From the moment I arrived at Washington University’s campus, the adventure began. Because I was the only representative from my chapter, I was pushed out of my shell and really got to know the women in my small group. From exploring this new campus to finding a place to grab a snack, I found new friends to do everything with. The women in my small group came from chapters across North America, and we were all surprised by how quickly we became so close.

Q: What was your biggest takeaway?

A: It was encouraging to be open about leadership struggles on our campuses, in our communities and within our chapters. Not only did I learn so much from the collegiate women in my small group, but the facilitators were amazing at getting us to open up. They encouraged us to be goofy and have fun with one another, but they also  challenged us to take what we learned and think of real-life applications. For a lot of us, that meant running for an Executive Council position, becoming more involved in our chapters or taking our leadership knowledge into the workplace.

Q: What would you say to someone who is thinking about attending?

A: If the chance to attend Pi Beta Phi Leadership Institute ever falls into your lap, GO! Or, better yet, make it happen yourself! I love being able to contact my network of resources to ask advice on a problem. Pi Beta Phi Leadership Institute really takes Sincere Friendship to a new level; I didn’t know I could form those kinds of sustaining relationships in such a short time.

Pi Beta Phi Leadership Institute is scheduled for July 14-17, 2022, and open to all Pi Phis—whether you’re just starting your leadership journey, serving as a chapter officer or leading initiatives in your community. Learn more and register.
