2021 Collegiate Excellence Award Winners

Every year, Pi Beta Phi recognizes clubs, chapters and individual members for their excellence in various aspects of Pi Phi life. Congratulations to our 2021 Collegiate Excellence Award Winners!

Collegiate Excellence in Alumnae Advisory Committee

Ontario Beta

In addition to providing guidance on position-specific responsibilities, Ontario Beta Advisors prioritized supporting member wellbeing. After the passing of a chapter member, chapter advisors lead with care and compassion, putting Sincere Friendship at the forefront of their work. Their patience and understanding allowed chapter leaders to work through a difficult time and remain engaged with the chapter.

In 2021, Michigan Gamma partnered with Michigan Alpha to collect donations for a women’s shelter in Lansing, Michigan and collaborated with Michigan Beta to host a panel discussion focused on privilege and power with faculty from both universities participating. The chapter also partnered with the Michigan State Alpha Phi Gamma chapter to host a Read > Lead > Achieve® event at a local park.

Collegiate Excellence in Finance/Housing

Florida Beta

Amidst budget revisions due to the pandemic, the Finance/Housing Team worked to communicate changes with officers and chapter members to ensure everyone understood the changes being made. The Finance/Housing Team also played a significant role in planning Florida Beta’s Centennial Celebration—which required officers to work with memberplanet to collect registration fees and ensure the proper transfer of funds.

Collegiate Excellence in Member Experience

During the fall semester, the Member Experience Team worked to enhance the New Member experience by sending a weekly newsletter with information from chapter meetings and by facilitating a survey for New Members to reflect on their experience. Tennessee Gamma hosted regular programming throughout the year that encouraged sisters in every member class to connect.

Collegiate Excellence in Operations

Michigan Beta

In 2021, Michigan Beta’s Operations Team worked closely with each specialty area to help reach chapter goals including fewer members on Automatic Financial Probation/Dismissal, fewer senior resignations and a 23% increase in senior attendance at meetings. Chapter leaders also focused on improving efficiency by processing quick turnarounds on membership status changes, continuous updates in eReports and a nearly 100% completion rate of the Member Obligations.

Throughout the recruitment process, South Carolina Alpha saw a significant increase in Potential New Member preferences and return rates. Members of the Recruitment Team worked to enhance their Preference event which led to the chapter making quota plus 14. Immediately following recruitment, chapter leaders recruited additional New Members through Continuous Open Bidding—allowing New Members to join the member class without missing a meeting.

Collegiate Excellence in Risk Management

Connecticut Alpha

Recognizing the increased stress on chapter members due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Connecticut Alpha Risk Management Team incorporated a mental health minute into their weekly chapter meetings to share resources and address a variety of mental health topics. Chapter officers also relied on the Member Conduct Committee to provide education on the accountability process, automatic consequences and responsible social media use.
