Optimize Your Impact

As another year draws to a close and you make charitable contributions to organizations close to your heart—with a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your IRA—your impact can be even greater. If you’ve been looking to reinforce your personal philanthropic efforts, consider supporting Pi Beta Phi with a QCD. We’ve outlined three tips to help you decide if this opportunity is right for you and find more information regarding the benefits of this process.

1.) Seek professional advice

While Pi Beta Phi Foundation staff cannot provide legal or tax advice, we can visit with you about options available to meet your charitable and financial goals. Discuss making a gift through your IRA with a trusted financial advisor. Talking through this process with a professional can help you understand the basics, know your options and make an informed decision based on your financial needs and wants.

2.) Research from trustworthy sources

Since 2020, changes in legislation have been made that may influence your charitable giving through the CARES and SECURE Act(s). With these changes, making a gift from your IRA can offer tax-free benefits, and you can still name Pi Beta Phi Foundation as a beneficiary. For more information on how these changes may affect you, please visit irs.gov or seek counsel and advice from your personal financial advisors.

You may also see our IRA Gift FAQs to learn more, or you can complete our IRA Gifts form and send copies to your financial advisor/broker and the Foundation to get started. We also ask that you email the Foundation to let us know how to designate your gift.

3.) Learn how your gifts support Pi Beta Phi

When considering if a QCD is right for you, it’s also important to consider the impact your gift can make. During the 2022-2023 fiscal year, our Foundation provided $1,995,632 in grants to support Pi Phi programming. Donors helped Pi Beta Phi continue to build confident leaders, support sisters pursuing academic dreams, inspire a lifelong love of reading in young learners and provide a financial lifeline to Pi Phis in crisis. Learn more about what it means to give to Pi Beta Phi Foundation as well as other giving opportunities on our website.

Giving to the Foundation keeps the Pi Phi flame burning bright for new generations of members—we encourage you to explore the benefits of this opportunity. If you have any questions, reach out to Kansas Alpha Mary Showman Carpenter at mcarpenter@pibetaphi.org.
