10 Ways to Celebrate Read > Lead > Achieve Month

Every September, our sisterhood celebrates Read > Lead > Achieve® Month. Read > Lead > Achieve is Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic effort and includes all Pi Phi literacy programs and initiatives. While we champion for literacy all year round, September is our month to come together in celebration and share our love for literacy with each other and our communities at large. Below, we’ve shared 10 ways anyone can shine Pi Phi Pride on Read > Lead > Achieve Month and impact children’s lives through the power of reading!

1. Donate to a Little Free Library®.

Have a collection of books you’ve already read? Drop them off at Little Free Libraries in your neighborhood to spread the enjoyment of reading and encourage others to do the same. Little Free Libraries are volunteer-led book-exchange boxes, and there are more than 200,000 established around the world—find one near you!

2. Join the Pi Phi Pages virtual book club.

Pi Phi Pages encourages participants to read a selected book each month, engage in discussion questions and connect with other Pi Phis. Our September book is Gather Me: A Memoir in Praise of the Books That Saved Me by Glory Edim—join today to share your love of literacy with your sisters!

3. Create homemade bookmarks.

Gather your sisters, friends and all the craft supplies for a bookmark making night. Design bookmarks with a special message that inspires a lifelong love of reading. Then, share your creations with local libraries and schools—or even drop them off in Little Free Libraries as a fun surprise!

4. Attend events at your local library.

Research your local libraries to see what upcoming events or social gatherings they’re offering. This gives you the chance to support your local community and connect with others who share similar passions!

5. Share inspiration on social media.

Sharing how you’re celebrating Read > Lead > Achieve month is a great way to invite friends and family to join you. Consider highlighting the book that made you love reading or your favorite quote, and don’t forget to use #ReadLeadAchieve to spread the word!

6. Host a reading party.

Invite your sisters and friends to host a reading party, indulging in both good books and each other’s company! After you've shared a quiet moment of reading together, take some time to discuss the thoughts and insights inspired by the books you’ve brought.

7. Support local authors.

Research the local authors in your area and support them by reading their work or sharing their stories on social media. You’ll help promote literacy by celebrating an artist close to home—and you may even discover a new favorite author!

8. Create your own reading challenge.

If you’re in a reading slump or simply ready to take on a new challenge, create your own reading goals to reach! Whether it be daily, weekly or monthly goals, designing your own challenge is a fun way to celebrate literacy in your own life, and you can even invite friends and family to join you.

9. Celebrate the achievements of your chapter or local alumnae club.

Chapters and alumnae clubs often host events and fundraising opportunities in support of Read > Lead > Achieve initiatives. Take a moment to share the impact they’re making on social media, or send a thoughtful message to encourage and celebrate their efforts!

10. Make a gift to The Literacy Fund at Pi Beta Phi Foundation.

Gifts to The Literacy Fund directly support all Pi Phi reading programs and initiatives such as Champions are Readers®, Local Impact Grants, Fraternity Day of Service Signature Events and more. Supporting The Literacy Fund ensures Pi Phi can continue these efforts and strengthen our collective commitment to literacy. Learn more about all our initiatives and make a gift today!
