Four Skills You’ll Gain from Attending Ignite
Launching this May, Ignite is Pi Beta Phi’s new retreat experience designed to equip you with the knowledge and connections you need to make your leadership goals a reality. Over three immersive days, you will strengthen key skills while building Sincere Friendships with sisters from across North America. Through large-group sessions and small-group activities, you will develop four specific skills you can apply within Pi Phi, on campus and in your communities long after graduation.
1. Self-Awareness
Leadership deepens when you understand yourself. Ignite creates an intentional space for you to reflect on your strengths, identify areas for growth and consider how your behavior affects others.
You will be encouraged to take ownership of your decisions and consider how your actions shape team dynamics. This reflection builds confidence and clarity, helping you respond thoughtfully in challenging moments and lead in ways that feel authentic to you. Whether you’re guiding your chapter through recruitment, interviewing for your first job or navigating a new professional environment, self-awareness strengthens every role you step into.
2. Collaboration
You have likely experienced the difference between simply working in a group and truly working together. Collaboration at Ignite will focus on building real trust and mutual respect. You will learn how to work effectively with different personalities and perspectives, listen intentionally and create space for others to contribute.
Through small-group discussions and activities, you will practice bringing people into the conversation rather than carrying responsibilities alone. You will explore how to build momentum around ideas, so others feel ownership as well. These skills strengthen chapters and make leadership feel shared instead of overwhelming. They also prepare you to thrive in professional and community settings where having strong relationships drives results.

3. Influence
Influence often happens in everyday moments. It’s exemplified when a sister trusts your opinion or when others look to you for clarity during times of change.
At Ignite, you will reflect on how your communication style and presence shape the way others experience your leadership. You'll practice guiding conversations and encouraging buy-in, discovering how influence grows when members understand the “why,” feel part of the plan and know their voices matter. The ability to build trust and inspire confidence will serve you far beyond your collegiate experience, strengthening your impact in internships, careers and community leadership.
4. Problem-Solving
Every chapter faces challenges, and you will inevitably encounter moments that feel complex or uncertain. Ignite will equip you with practical strategies to break challenges into manageable steps. Through guided activities and discussion, you will practice approaching difficult situations with focus and positive energy. You’ll learn how to create stability when others feel unsure, strengthening trust and confidence in your leadership. The ability to confidently navigate complex situations is a valuable asset in your future workplace, your relationships and every environment where thoughtful decision-making matters.
While Ignite is focused on skill development, connection remains at the heart of the experience. Throughout the retreat, you will engage with fellow emerging leaders and accomplished alumnae who offer insight, inspiration and encouragement. You will come home not only with new tools, but with sisters in your corner who want to see you succeed through every stage of life.
You are part of the generation that will shape tomorrow’s Pi Phi. Ignite will equip you with the confidence, clarity and connections to step forward and light the way for others—on campus, in your career and wherever life takes you.
