Becoming a Pi Phi at the University of Maine will not only make your collegiate experience more meaningful, but will present you with new and exciting opportunities. Pi Phi values leadership, academics, service, intellectual development, and most importantly sisterhood. As a member of Pi Beta Phi, you will discover a home away from home with each and every sister.

Hello, I would like to personally welcome you to the Maine Alpha Chapter of Pi Beta Phi’s webpage!

Pi Beta Phi was founded on April 28th, 1867 by a group of 12 independent college women at Monmouth College inIllinois. We were the first organization to be founded as a national fraternity, before the word "Sorority" even existed. The goal of our chapter is to build strong bonds and enforce the principles that Pi Phi has strived to create. Our organization is built off of six core values: Integrity, Lifelong Commitment, Honor and Respect, Personal and Intellectual Growth, Philanthropic Service to Others, and Sincere Friendship. All of our members live out these values each and every day through our multiple philanthropies that we hold each semester, supporting our fellow Greeks at their events and get-togethers, and sister bonding activities that occur frequently.

Many of our sisters are involved in clubs, organizations, honors societies, and hold leadership positions on campus. Some of these organizations are; Best Buddies, Order of Omega, Alternative Breaks, Bearfest, Dance Team, Pre-Law Society, and Health Professions club to name a few. As a whole we participate in Greek Intramurals and have won many championships!

When it comes to school Maine Alpha is always striving for personal and intellectual growth. We host study sessions, and have mentors for sisters looking for extra help with their classes. Maine Alpha strives for academic excellence, and this shows best in our philanthropies supporting children’s literacy. We have two large philanthropy events each year to support our international cause: First Book. First Book supports children's literacy, and gives books to children from low income households across the US and Canada.

We have all became very personally involved with this philanthropy. On Fridays we go to our local YMCA and get to read and spend time with the 1st-3rd graders during their after school programs. Our first philanthropy event of the year is Arrowspike and takes place in the fall. This philanthropy is a volleyball tournament where many people and Greek organizations make teams to play against each other. Our spring philanthropy is Halo Bowl. Halo Bowl is a new event for us similar to Arrowspike, but is a football tournament.

This is just a brief introduction into the organization that has become an amazing and unforgettable experience for myself and the rest of the Maine Alpha chapter of Pi Beta Phi. Words cannot truly express how much Pi Phi has impacted my life. It has been great experience to serve as Maine Alphas Chapter President and represent such a great group of women. My sisters are my best friends, support systems, future brides’ maids, and overall lifelong friends. My hopes are that this website gives you an insight on the organization that is near and dear to my heart forever.

Pi Phi Love and all of mine,
Emily Marsters
