Letter from the President

Potential New Members, Parents, Friends- Hello and Welcome to Pi Beta Phi at the University of Maine!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our new and improved website. My name is Kayla Leland

and I couldn't be more excited to share my experiences with you.

For PNM's; 4 years ago as a PNM, I would never have imagined myself in this position. I think many women

who sign up for fall recruitment are unsure of exactly what they are looking for in an

organization (as was I), but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, that you have no idea

how fun the ride is going to be.

Whether you join Pi Phi at UMaine or any other sorority we have on campus, you are joining a

community of empowering leaders who will encourage your growth and happiness for life.

The exception, however, is Pi Phi. In joining this organization, you will be shaped and molded by 150

years of strong and rich tradition. Pi Beta Phi gives its members an un-imitable member

experience, whether it is the leadership opportunities, our literacy initiative, or the unbreakable

bond that we share with our sisters- Pi Phi members stand out from the rest. We are a unique

and diverse group of women- you can find us in the hip-hop club, $PIFFY, Miss Maine, club

sports- the list goes on. With 60 beautiful and courageous women cheering you on, how could

you not excel? If you choose to Go Greek, the world is at your fingertips.

We hope that you reach out to us to learn more about our sisterhood!

For Parents; when I told my dad "I think I want to join a sorority", I'm sure he had a lot of concerns. As we all

know, Greek Life has a strong sigma these days, and the media shows us all the reasons not to

join. I can assure you that the culture of Greek Life at UMaine is not in line with the negative

stereotypes. This community cultivates leadership potential and encourages service. We are a

truly tight-knit and diverse group of men and women, and your daughter will be gaining much

more than a resume booster in joining.

That being said-year over year, sorority women as a whole out-perform non-Greek women, and

this is no coincidence. We know that your daughter's success is paramount, and Pi Phi will help

her prosper in her 4 years here at UMaine. With tools like our Leadership Institute, our New

Member Education programming, and Leading With Values, your daughter will gain mentors

and friends for life who will put her on the path to success and happiness. I know it sounds

corny, but this organization truly is the best decision I've ever made.

I hope you have enjoyed your time, please surf around on our website and be sure to visit our

social media sites! Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Pi Phi Love,

President Kayla Leland
