Purposefully Pi Phi

More than 153 years ago, 12 bold, young women were pioneers—they acted with purpose to make meaningful change. Our founders had the same mission and vision that continue to drive our members today.

Every Pi Phi has pledged to use her influence for the betterment of society—to live and lead with our core values. Now more than ever, we must thoughtfully consider how we live these values every day.

How are you living purposefully Pi Phi?

Purposefully Pi Phi encourages members to share how their Pi Phi membership has transformed their actions through personal stories. It is not a story of what Pi Phi has given you, but rather an expression of how Pi Phi has inspired you to take action in your classrooms, communities and around the world.

Share your story on social media using #PurposefullyPiPhi.

Recently, I won a $1,000 grant to pursue my business to help children of working parents find safe rides home from school. Whether it is a late-night study buddy or help planning my class schedule, I know that these women will always be there to encourage my growth and success in all aspects of my life.

This year, because of COVID-19 restrictions, we are bringing Book Club to the kids virtually. Each chapter member has read a book on video, careful to wear a mask and social distance. The chapter sent the videos to the teacher of the class that usually participates in Book Club. By still reading books virtually, the class can enjoy literacy and build connections with the Missouri Gamma Chapter of Pi Beta Phi. We cannot wait until we are able to return to the classroom and continue our literacy initiatives in person.

Pi Phi History

In 1867, 12 courageous young women at Monmouth College came together to form a sisterhood rooted in shared experiences, enduring values and Sincere Friendships. Today, more than 150 years and 300,000 members later, we continue to celebrate our founders' vision as sisters of Pi Beta Phi.
