Speaker Series program

Being a college student isn’t easy. In many cases, college is the first time students might make decisions that have long-lasting impact on those around them and those who support them. Pi Beta Phi's Critical Conversations® Speaker Series allows members to gain information they need to make some of those big choices. Speaker Series programs are delivered to every chapter through a trained facilitator visit. Throughout the four-year collegiate experience, members have the opportunity to engage in the full Speaker Series (one Speaker Series annually).

Read below to learn more about the conversations in which Pi Phi collegiate members are engaging.

Pi Beta Phi was awarded the 2021 Campus Prevention Network (CPN) Seal of Prevention™ for demonstrating a commitment to digital prevention programs tied to student safety, well-being and inclusion.

Recipients of the CPN Seal of Prevention™ have taken action to create a safer, more inclusive campus through comprehensive, evidence-based digital prevention education on issues such as sexual assault, alcohol misuse, mental health, and discrimination.

Alcohol Skills Training Program

The Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP) educates on alcohol-related behavior while increasing members' interest in critically examining their drinking patterns and implementing the skills they learn. In doing so, members can minimize potential negative consequences through prevention, reduced consumption or abstinence. ASTP differs from other alcohol education programs members may have experienced — collegians leave this program feeling educated and empowered.

Pi Beta Phi is pleased to partner with Dr. Jason Kilmer to deliver this experience to our collegiate members.

Discovering Sincere Friendship

Discovering Sincere Friendship is a discussion about what Sincere Friendship does and does not look like in Pi Beta Phi chapters. Members have the opportunity to work with their sisters, reflecting on their own experiences and ways we can work together to enhance chapter dynamics and build sisterhood. This program helps participants discuss mental health and its connection to Sincere Friendship, develop healthy relationships with peers, address bullying, intimidation and superior/inferior relationships, and provide tips to positively motivate and encourage others.

Pi Beta Phi is pleased to partner with Dr. Mari Ann Callais to deliver this experience to our collegiate members.

Sisterhood, Safety and Sexual Assault

Through Sisterhood, Safety, and Sexual Assault, Pi Beta Phi offers collegiate members education in topics such as healthy relationships, consent, sexual assault, safe social environments and bystander intervention. This interactive program helps make members more aware of their surroundings and look out for their peers while equipping them to confidently support a friend in need.

Pi Beta Phi is pleased to partner with Aaron Boe of Prevention Culture to deliver this experience to our collegiate members.

Every Act of Yours

Every Act of Yours is a conversation about how confrontation and accountability are integral pieces of Sincere Friendship. This program helps members understand that having the care to confront and hold their sisters accountable are life skills that will benefit them far beyond college. The program focuses on every member’s role in creating safe and successful environments for their sisters, while maintaining their personal best.

Pi Beta Phi is pleased to partner with Dr. Lori Hart to create this experience for our collegiate members.

Critical Conversations Facilitators

Speaker Series facilitators are individuals, often campus-based professionals or Pi Phi alumnae, who travel to Pi Phi chapters throughout the academic year to deliver the Critical Conversations curriculum. These facilitators are selected and trained to be effective in delivering prevention education content and navigating difficult topics with chapter members. Whether a facilitator is a campus fraternity/sorority advisor, fraternity or sorority headquarters staff member or Pi Phi alumna, he or she has experience working with college students and delivering content to groups.
