Pi Beta Phi recognizes California Epsilon Patricia "Pattie" Asquith Wellborn with the 2024 Carolyn Helman Lichtenberg Crest Award for her efforts in community service.

How has your involvement with Pi Beta Phi influenced or shaped your approach to leadership?
My involvement in Pi Beta Phi has influenced me to prioritize teamwork with the community to accomplish our goals. When working with the community, direct involvement is important. Everyone has a different approach and it’s important to value and consider all ideas.

What advice would you give to other Pi Phis who aspire to make a positive impact in their communities?
There are many areas within the community to get involved. Don’t hesitate! Choose something you're passionate about and commit yourself to making a positive impact.

In what ways do you believe your experiences as a Pi Phi have uniquely prepared you for your community service role?
My sisters at Pi Phi have always been an inspiration to me. They are strong, compassionate, understanding and most importantly, they have incredible dedication to our community.

Who motivates and inspires you to continue your efforts?
My mother was completely selfless and devoted her life to bettering the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds.

What is something you wish you would have known sooner in life?
I wish I had learned how to be proficient in navigating new technology. Technology is ever-changing, and being 90 years old, there are many changes I’ve had to keep up with in my life. That being said, I feel that through my faith, my friends and my family, I am otherwise well-prepared in life.

What's the best advice you’ve ever received?
Be true to yourself. Take time to analyze the problem, and then move to make a change in the situation.

How do you measure personal success?
Knowing in my heart and soul, I have made a positive change in people’s lives.
