Leslie Pierose Scantling, Idaho Alpha
After her own battle with breast cancer 10 years ago, Leslie and her mother, a breast cancer survivor of 26 years, were unable to walk in their local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure when the organization left the state, so they decided to organize their own small walk with friends. One small event turned into Leslie founding and launching her own breast cancer nonprofit for the valley called Flock Cancer Idaho. Now in its 6th year, Leslie has raised more than $500,000 for the breast cancer community and the event has become well-known in her historic Boise, Idaho, neighborhood where neighbors decorate, medals are given to survivors, mammograms are performed and critical funds are raised. Leslie advocates for breast cancer programs and serves on the Comprehensive Cancer Alliance Initiative for the Department of Health and Welfare, where she helps develop resources for the cancer community. Her nonprofit recently launched a grant which funds critical diagnostic and screening care for uninsured women to drive an increase in breast cancer screening rates in her state. For Pi Phi, Leslie serves as the Alumnae Advisory Committee Chair for Idaho Alpha.
