Raising Our Voices Against Racial Injustice

Pi Beta Phi exists to contribute to the betterment of society. We are proud of our chapters and members who are using their voices to stand up against racism, discrimination and violence against people of color. We've collected only a few of the many ways our chapters have used their platform to educate and provide actionable items for their members and communities. “𝐈𝐟 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠.” We are so incredibly proud to be a part of a Chapter like ours that promotes and prides itself in diversity, whether it be racial, religious, economic, and more. • The recent tragedies have raised awareness and heightened the issue of institutionalized racism in the United States. We know that our California Omicron sisters will continue to promote human dignity, respect, tolerance, and kindness, and our Chapter wants to do anything to help foster an educational and understanding environment so we can grow together. • To our black sisters; 𝐖𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮. “All our silences in the face of racist assault are acts of complicity” — bell hooks Alberta Alpha will not remain silent as acts of racism surge through the US and Canada. We wish to support the Black community by highlighting Black Visions Collective, an organization committed to healing and transformative justice, working to dismantle systems of oppression. The California Epsilon Chapter of Pi Beta Phi stands in solidarity with the Black community. We recognize the deeply-embedded privilege found in the history of Pi Beta Phi and the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) which has predominantly benefited white women. While our organization and NPC have made strides in fostering a more racially-inclusive environment, we must do more. We must further our own knowledge concerning this matter, actively listen and fiercely advocate in order to cultivate a community that is diverse, welcoming to all women and representative of society at large. CA Epsilon pledges to use our platform to be proactive allies of the Black Lives Matter movement. We are committed to dissolving the systemic racism that continues to disadvantage people of color, not only in our country but the Panhellenic community as a whole. 100% of the funds raised will be benefiting the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, which has been a “premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans” (naacpldg.org). This organization has been defending civil rights for over 75 years and we find that it embodies the justice and equality that should be afforded to the entire Black community. The link to donate can be found in our bio. We encourage any and all donations to the NAACP. #BlackLivesMatter. Pi Beta Phi - California Epsilon

The Colorado Alpha Chapter of Pi Beta Phi has created a fund to raise donations and awareness for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Alongside our sisters, we would like to support this fund and continue to advocate for persons of color. We recognize our privilege as a predominantly white chapter, however, we are working hard to educate ourselves, and make changes in the greek life culture. The link to their fund is in our bio. About: "The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 75 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments" (naacpldg.org). 100% of the donations will be going to The NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a fund that holds true to not only our values, but stands up for the long-awaited justice and equality for the black community. Please, consider donating to The NAACP Legal Defense Fund, as well as educating yourself about what is and has been going on in the United States for more than 400 years.
